Grading search order issue

I am needing to grade out from a featureline that is in cut to daylight in the fill direction (drainage flows away from the featureline). To do this I have created a grading critieria that has the Fill First Search Order parameter locked. I have verified that there is a fill solution if I use a 0.2% slope on the grading. Yet when I apply the grading it always uses the cut solution. It refuses to find a fill solution even if I apply 0.05% slope to the grading.

Has anyone had similar problems with this functionality? (C3D 2013).

Hi Neil,
Have you try to use the projection as fill slope only as part of the criteria? and then create another criteria just to cut.

Hi Neil

I just tried the very same thing and could not get the fill first to work. I eventually over projected at the grade I wanted, extracted the zero contour from a temp volume surface, turned into a FL extracted EG and added an infill. I know its not dynamic but it got me out of the ditch fast.

Thank you

Tatiana,

I did see there is an option to force a solution to be exclusively fill or exclusively cut, but I want the grading to find a cut solution where it can't find a fill. I thought that is what this option is for.

If I can verify that it doesn't function as designed I'll have to resort to workarounds.

Thanks for verifying Joe. I'll file a support request to get it looked at.
