I added a step to the workflow in my previous post. Please note in step 2 the need to create featurelines from the polylines.
I will have to try that Neilw, this might be what I am looking for.
I will respond once I get a chance to try this and let you know how it worked for me.

I'd like to know how you organized your feature lines, infills and grading tools in order to get to that results, Postmaster, as you shown us in your posted images, please.
Unfortuantely, I have not had a chance to try Nielw's approach above. If you see the last paragraph of my second post here, there is a description of the dirty way that I came up with my design.
I simply setup a feature line that represented the top of my pond and graded out to existing at a 3:1.
I created a surface from this grading and pasted my pond interior surface on this grading surface.
The pond's 3D geometry was designed ahead of time by hand so I just made a wireframe of 3d polylines and added them as breaklines to a new surface. That is how i got the pond interior surface.
