Generating line work

In 2009 our survey field books contained line commands like BEG (for begin a line) or RECALL or CLOSE to connect line work. Now it appears in 2011 the line work is generated by description codes ("EP B" to begin a line of edge of pavement ) or ("EP R2005 to connect our edge of pavement to shot 2005. Is there a method by which surveyors can code things in a field book to work in both 2009 and 2011.

We haven't changed the way that fieldbooks are imported, but we've added another way of doing linework from a text file. Your crew's shouldn't have to change the way they code a fieldbook, but you might want to look at the new options that we've introduced with the text file import including the "1 point curve" and in 2012 the "2 point curve"
