We created a general note style that includes the following: Northing, Easting, Point Elevation.
If you place a NEW note using this style, and snap to something with a Z elevation, the "Z" portion of the label works as expected.
However, if you COPY an existing note, the "Z" portion of the label does not update, even if you snap the endpoint of the leader to something with a different "Z" elevation.
Of course the N and E update all of the time as expected. Why isn't the elevation value dynamic also?
You can add a note label that includes the Point Elevation to any object (e.g. a line or a polyline)
with any elevation (e.g. the Elevation = 0) and copy or move it from the end of this object
to the destination object with the Elevation (e.g. of a line or a polyline).
1. Select the Note Label and type the Copy command:
2. Select any point of the first object (e.g. the Endpoint) and copy it to the destination point of the second object
(e.g. the Endpoint😞
3. You will get the Note label with the Elevation Point which displays a proper elevation value:
This method works in Autodesk Civil 3D 2012, 2011 and 2010.
If you want to copy the General Note label, then when it asks you to select the Base Point, I've found the easiest option is to use the INSERT osnap on the General Note Label. Then at the prompt to select your second point, snap to your desired target object. The elevation in your copied label should be the correct elevation for your target object, as-expected.
Thanks for the confirmation. Your described procedure is exactly what we were doing. In the production drawing, it works sometimes and then it does not work other times. In a new empty drawing, it works all of the time. Must be something flaky in the production drawing.
