Flickering Hour Glass

Does anyone have a solution to the flicker hour glass. My Civil 3D 2011 has just started giving me a flickering hour glass that will not stop untill I close civil 3D completely. I have only been working in Civil 3D the last week and I have a new computor.

I tried to do a search in the discussion forum, but I guess this function is not working either.

Hi Scott-

Sounds like this is the cause: http://beingcivil.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/09/viewcube-and-the-white-box-after-installing-update-1...

Although this post does not mention the flickering, it was a symptom of this issue.

If this is the issue, what would be the solution. How do I check to see which version I am running.  I tride entering About in the command line, but I could not find what service pack I had if any. Our IT department installs all our software, but they do not know much about autocad.

What about the search function in the discussion forum not working.

You need to toggle hardware acceleration on/off. You can do this by typing 3DCONFIG into the command line> MANUAL TUNE. The option is at the top of the next dialog box.

Toggling hardware acceleration does not work.

Did you save the settings, then go back in and toggle it?

Try updating your graphics driver in the same 3DCONFIG dialog as well.

I assume the setting are save when I exit 3dconfig.  I have sent in a request to our IT department to update my driver, but this may take a few days for them to get to this.

Hi,

if you have the chance to modify your start-icons of Civil then copy one to have an icon for playing, modify this (right-click ==> properties) to use the /nohardware parameter. This disables hardware-accerleration for the next start of Civil.

Look >>>here<<< for the start parameters.

Hi Scott,

It does look like the issue Seth pointed that may be caused by the install of Civil 3D Update 1. Can you confirm if this behavior happened after you installed Update 1. If so, please see the following Technical Solution and apply some of the suggestions from there. Here is the link: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=15851876&linkID=9240697

Also see if you can have the latest or supported graphic card driver.

I have tried this soluition already, but toggling the hardware accelleration did not work. I also had our IT department load the latest updates to see if that would had but I still have the flickering hour glass. The flickering hour glass usely begins when I open toolspace. I need this issue fixed.

Also, my Civil3d is coming up non responsive for about 5-10 seconds turning toolspace on and off and when switching between different workspaces.

Hi Scott,

Can you try to login as different user and see if you get the same issues? I want to see fi the issue is user profile related.

I don't have a solution, just to say that we've been dealing with this issue for the past year or so.  Three of us have the problem to various degrees.  Our ITs final solution is to completely wipe and reinstall our computers (which we haven't let them do yet).  We've tried the various fixes (updating graphics cards, turning off acceleration, messing with the cube, etc.).  None of this stuff worked.

If anyone comes up with a new theory, please let me know.

I believe I have my issue partialy fix. If I go to toolspace and set Master View current, the flickering hour glass goes away.

So far this has been working for me.

We also made recreated my user profle and updated my graphic card driver, but this did not seem to help.

Thank You so much for this fix. Switched to master view and no more flicker. I have been trying to correct this for a long time. Thanks
