First time user - desperately needs help

Hello to anyone that can help,

I am currently active in a university course that involves drafting with a
CAD package. My lecturer advised me to purchase Civil 3D ( I have got the
2005 version ) , but I think that I have to do my drawings in the Autocad
part of this package. Although this is embarrassing to ask, could someone
please help me in a step by step manner to solve this very simple problem.

How do you change from the Civil 3D screen to the Autocad 2005 screen ?

I purchased a book called "Autocad 2005 for dummies", but when I click on
the buttons in the various toolbars, there does not seem to be the options
available that I need to change the screen. The book says "you can change
the appearance of the screen with settings on the Display tab of the Options
dialog box (choose tools - then Options - and then Display)". But I try to
do this and there are no areas that allow me to select these buttons.

Please can someone help.

Thankyou for your time.

Regards

ok when you first open Civil 3D you're missing the main menu pull downs for normal ACAD. type Menuload a box comes up with two tabs go to the second tab. On that tab is a pull down for ACAD, and others that are already loaded. Make sure ACAD is selected and then in the two windows below it insert the pull down menus that you'll need which is most of them. Edit, Tools, Draw, Dimension, Modify,etc..

That should help get you back on track.

BAsically I have found little difference between aCAD and Civil 3D except for new terminology in Civil 3D but, all the old ACAD stuff is there.

Another option is to type in "menu" and at that dialogue box, you can select "acad" which is the base AutoCAD that everyone's used to. Theres other menus there too, I think the "Civil" will bring back the C3D with ACAD pull downs together.
