File size increased "drastically" and Civil 3D slow down..

hi..

i am using Civil 3D 2010 ..from last 2-3 days my Civil 3D slows down and my file size increased drastically.

it is taking 15-20 min to open file even that file have just some polylines.

even if i open "new" file and saved it without any work in it, it becomes 4.5 mb.

my some files which are about 500 kb in size  before 2-3 days are around 5mb today.

i have'nt update any thing in " OS" and alos in Civil 3D....

can anybody help me....in this regard....?

any reply would be appriciated

Hello,

In 99% of the time the drawing size swelling is a sign that the drawing is corrupted. I would advise you to try to run RECOVER to all files associated to this drawing including that one and see if that helps. RECOVER, -PURGE, SCALELISTEDIT, AUDIT, MAPCLEAN.

If that does not help try following:

  1. Open your drawing and type WBLOCK in command line
  2. Select Entire drawing and location where you would like this Block to be placed (desktop)
  3. Create new drawing and associate it with this project
  4. Type INSERT in command line to import Block you created in step 2 and explode it while inserting it at 0,0,0 coordinate
  5. Save this drawing over your corrupted drawing with the same name
  6. Repeat this for any file in this project, repointing xrefs.

Hi nilesh33-

Is your installation of Civil 3D 2010 fully updated to Update 3.1? If not we would suggest installing the updates (2 & 3.1) as Update 3.1 addressed an issue that may be contributing to the file size increase you are reporting.

The updates can be found here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334435&linkID=9240698#section2

Please let me know if this helps.

Hi,

Maybe you can try to change the varable "Proxygraphics" to 0 and save your file.

The size should decrease.

Best

Lionel

ok.. i agree with you...but this problem is not only with one file, its with all files of project and our files having too many Civil 3D 'content' like alignments and surfaces, profiles etc.

one more thing i would like to mention here that i have Civil 3D 2011 and i open same file in 2011 and saved  it to other place in "2011 format" it works fine ....for some reason i have to go with Civil 3d 2010.

but i will try some audit and recover on some Xref files.

So are you actually suggesting that we WBLOCK alignments, pipes, parcels, etc.. to a new file... what happens when every corridor, profile, profile view, section group any other annotative label attched to the alignment reference breaks...is it possible to simple re-assign the broken reference to a new drawing file with new handles...

Great if we could do this...please advise
