File Structure

Hello ,

I have a question on File Structure. I've been using Civil 3D for about a year now. I've come across people who have set up their file structure differently.

I would Like to opinions on what is the optimum file structure for fully taking advantage of the Civil 3D software.

Here is how I have been laying out file structure. A quick project scenerio:

Create a base file for each of the following individual - prop. pipe network for Water, Wastewater, Alignment, existing util, surface.

Create all proposed utilities in separate files with their own individual networks.

Then data shortcut them into drawings as need be.

Any feed back would be much appreaciated.

Thanks.

I started doing it this way when I first switched to C3D (v2011), but always had problems with everything being found.  It seemed to be hit-and-miss.  I switched to having fewer files and combining more than one dynamic utility into common files, sometimes only one common file for smaller projects, and it worked better for me.

I like the concept of separate files better, but it just had too many issues.  Maybe it's gotten better since then, I don't know.  I haven't tried in a couple years.
