Fatal Errors when activating viewport and other stuff....

Hi,

I'm using Autocad for nearly 30years. The company I work for recently stepped "up" to Civil 3D 2014. (My machine is  Core i7-3770).

I don't think I've had so many fatal errors in my 30 years of autocad compared to the few months of civil 3d.

When does it happen...........

1.when entering a viewport especially one set up through sheet creation (I've given up on that).

2.when swapping tabs.

3.trying to save named views (doen't work for me when it doesn't crash, save the views but I can only restore the first view created)

4. I get fatal errors when closing civil 3d down after successfully saving/closing my drawing and no other file open, boom!!

Another issue (but I believe its a symptom of the problem) is not being able to see the content of viewports or only seeing partial content. prints ok but I can't see it on screen (maxactvp=64) only 3 vps. I need to swith tabs and switch back to see it and even then I'm not sure if everything is there.

If I need to rotate the view, forget it, the content shows up in the other viewport (distorted) and try as I might the intended viewport is blank.

I've tried the whipthread, LAYOUTREGENCTL in various arrangements but makes no difference.

Anyone experience similar issues? Any solutions or suggestions would be appreciated. (AC settings?, PC settings?)

My plain autocad setup works fine on the most part, a fatal error here and there but I can live with it.

I could go on complaining but it's Friday so I'll leave it there.

Regards

Sean

I don't have any of those problems. I've been running 2014 for nearly a year. The first thing I'd suggest is updating your video drivers. If that doesn't work I'd try repair then reinstall.

What video card do you have?

Hello Allen,

Thank you for replying. I've copied my 3dconfig log below. Maybe you can take a look and comment on settings?

thanks

I don't see any problems with the settings. I do see that there are new drivers available. My suggestion that updating the drivers should be the first step still stands.

Are these Legacy drawings or brand new creations?

I have definately seen this behavior in the former. Re-creating tabs and deleting the old appears to work for me.

Thank you

Hi Allen,

I see that the card is not certified but when I check for updates it responds with up to date.

I understand that it being not certified shouldn't cause a problem, what is your view?

thanks

Hi Joe,

My work in civil 3d over the past few months has consisted mainly of new work on blank templates. Although the common denominator would be my template drawing that I use to setup my sheets. As far as I can see dwt file is OK. I'll setup a set using another template and see what happens.

I'll try anything at this stage. You mentioned deleting the old tab in your drawings, what do you think could be wrong with the old tab that can't be fixed?

Regards

Sean

The card should be fine. Your drivers are 9.18.0013. The latest from the nvidia site are:

qt.PNG

I'm not saying this will solve the problem. But it's the first thing I'd try.

Hi Sean
I don't know what can happen to a layout. I can 100% confirm the behavior of locking up and or crashing from switching tabs, poking into a vport and plotting goes away if I:
1. wblbock out the offending layout contents
2. create a new layout
3. insert number 1.

In what appears to be every case, these are drawings that probably have not been opened since 2011-2012
Thank you
