FATAL ERROR: Cannot write to undo file (probably disk full)

Hey guys, I am using Civil 3D 2011, and the last 2 days I have been running into this issue. I tried google, and the most recent item google brought up was from May 2011, so I am coming here.

I am trying to import a tab from another drawing, and it does not matter which tab or what drawing, I am getting this issue.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Cleaning out your TEMP folder may fix this.

This is the only work around I have found for that problem. Save your drawing, type UNDO, enter, type Control (just C), set your undo option to none. Import your tab (or whatever, this may take a while). Save drawing exit Autocad. Make sure your undo is turned back on and continue working.

My temp folder is empty, unless there is a hidden one somewhere?

Make sure Windows Explorer is configured to show System & Hidden files. Then in the address bar enter %TEMP%

Yup, all of my temp files are gone. Where exactly does ACAD put the undo file? I read somewhere that it was limited to 256 MB or so, is this correct?

I would assume it is stored in memeory. I am not positive about that. And I do think you are correct about the size of the undo. I do know that when I get that error message, I set the undo to none, perform whatever operation then just turn the undo back on. I haven't had any other problems doing this.

There is no permanent fix then? I do not want to have to remember to turn undo off and then back on!

The Undo files should be wherever the Temp dwg location is set in options.

You can also type TEMPPREFIX to check the location.

I believe they are in this format.

BTW If your in Civil 3D your temp folder should not be empty. This could also be caused by a rights issue. If you IT suddenly restricted your rights to the folder I believe that it could cause the message you get. Possibly it would can not write message.

Well. That didn't make any sense. It is causing a write error.:smileysurprised:
