Extract volumes from a surface between to specific elevations?

How can I extract volumes from a surface between two specific elevations?  So if my range of elevations varies from 400' to 2500', how can i extract the volume from 1000' up to 2500' without any of the other volumetric data from the surface areas bleow the 1000'?  Is that even possible without creating a profile?  I am using Civil 3d 2014.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Create a surface at 1000' and do a TIN volume surface between this and the other surface or just a simple analysis between the two surfaces.

The range of elevations on the surface I'm trying to extrapolate the volume from is existing. Are you suggesting there is a method to only create a surface from a designated elevation on the existing elevation or to create that surface from the contours?

You cant get a volume from a single surface you must compare one surface to another
