Exporting to a .shp File

We're using Civil 3D 2009. I have recently been trying to export to a shp file using the Map=>Export function. Every time I do, CAD crashes and gives me this error message:

FATAL ERROR: Unhandled c000000dh Exception at 78138aa0h

At first I though maybe I had a bad install, but I can re-create the problem on multiple machines. Has anybody ever run across this problem? It happens every time, without exception, regardless of the type or number of objects I’m trying to export.

1. Only AutoCAD objects can be exported to shp format, no civil 3D objects.
2. Path to the location you are exporting to needs to a short path, anything
in a folder, in a folder, in a folder and in another folder will cause
issue.
3. File name of the file you are exporting to needs be dos compliance, no
special symbols or weird fonts
4. Assuming you have all the SP install and hot fixes, try the old standby
command "Mapexport4"

I'm only trying to export AutoCAD objects. Tried it just now to my c:\ directory and it still crashed. file name is test.shp. All service patches and hotfixes are installed. i did get it to work with the "Mapexport4" command, but it's missing spatial reference information. Maybe I missed something in the export dialog? Regardless, it would be nice to be able to do it through the map pulldown. Can you export shp files that way, Murph?

I don't have 09 installed any longer but no problems with 2010/2011.

Almost. Caught myself from saying something dumb.

You can Export civil3d objects as SDF then bulk copy to shp

I know this is an old thread, but I had the same problem in Civil 3d 2014. I shortened the path considerably and it worked fine. Thanks.
