Exploding featurelines to 3D Polylines

I have several featurelines that I wish to explode to be 3D Polylines (bad, I know, but it's a test for a way to get data across from our design group to our survey group).

Last week, in this drawing, I exploded a large selection of featurelines and they all became 3D polylines, preserving their elevation data. This week, I drew an additional set of featurelines in the same drawing.  When I explode them once, they lose all elevation data, becoming lpolylines at z=0.  Additionally, the Prospector shows me several errors: "breaklines not added to surface" or something similar.  Which is an odd result for the explode command.

What am I doing wrong?  Why did this work once but not a second time?

If it worked the first time and a second time on different data it does not work something has changed or the data is not the same. Have you tested a second time on the data that does not work and on a different computer?
Is it possible to attach the drawing?
In general: When exploding 3D feature lines you should get 3D polylines.

Thanks, that's what I thought too: Featurelines explode to 3D Polylines.

A co-worker just tried in a new, empty drawing not associated with a project.  He created a featureline with three vertices, with elevations 1, 2, and 3 respectively.  Exploded it once.  It turned into a polyline with all elevations at zero.

I did a similar test, but saved my drawing to an existing project first.  Created a featureline with four vertexes, all with different elevations.  Exploded it.  Now it's a polyline at z=0.

We've done more testing, and we have narrowed it down to the site.

Featurelines created in 'Site 1' explode to zero-elevation polylines.

Featurelines created in any other, new site explode correctly.

How are your Site Properties set?

Check your site's properties, 3D geometry tab and see if you are set to "Use Elevation".

"Featurelines explode to 3D Polylines"

Note that this is partially true. FLines explode to 3d polys only if z varies. If z is constant explode will always return an LWpolyline.

If Site Properties is the answer and it happens in all drawings. You'll have to change it in your template.

Great!  Thanks guys.

P.s. to AutoDesk- THIS WOULD BE HANDY TO MENTION IN THE HELP FILE SECTION ON FEATURELINES!

Are you using "xplode" command  to get polyline from feature line?

Because I´m trying with this command and I get "invalid object".
