Edit wall thickness

Just thinking of getting into the world of editing pipe network parts for my first time.  I've used them for a while, but never created or edited a part.

I opened up part builder and quickly closed out again.  It looks complicated!  Smiley Frustrated

I found this part in the .xml:

<Column desc="Wall Thickness" dataType="float" unit="mm" name="WTh" id="C2" visible="1" context="WallThickness" index="0">
<Row id="r0">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r1">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r2">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r3">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r4">0.0010</Row>
<Row id="r5">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r6">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r7">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r8">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r9">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r10">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r11">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r12">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r13">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r14">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r15">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r16">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r17">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r18">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r19">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r20">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r21">75.0000</Row>
<Row id="r22">75.0000</Row>

Seems to me quite simple to just edit 75 to 165 for all of the above lines, and be done!  Can I do this, or is there a problem with editing them this way?

Thanks!

But I just discovered something. We're using the same catalog for 2011 and 2013. Up till now I was testing in 2013, and it is not working. But I went into Part Builder in 2011 so as not to make the .dwg unreadable for 2011 if I had edited it in 2013.
So, in 2011 it is all working fine. I just tested, and the pipes come in with the right wall thickness in a new drawing. But when I try the exact same thing in 2013 they come in with the old size. I didn't even run PartCatalogRegen in 2011, it just worked fine.

Are you sure you set the same location for both 2013 and 2011 for the PipeCatalogue? I had 2012 and and 2013 installed simultaneously on one computer, and (if I recall correctly) they both default to different locations for the Pipe Catalogue; i.e there's a folder for 2012 and another for 2013. You can set the 2013 to look at your 2011 Pipe Catalogue under Create Design>Set Pipe Network Catalogue> and then find the 2011 one.

Workaround is to remove all part family definitions from list. Swap all parts to different part then add updated ones and swap back.
See related post on "data ref not updating parts list" for full gumph.

I am now.  I am meant to be, but I had it set wrong as noted earlier.  We are in an office here, with the catalog on a network drive so all can point to it.

I wonder if you could delete the part list from prospector and drag the new one back in instead.

I still think the network would need to be re-referenced or parts swapped after the part list is redefined. I don't believe  parts in a file will dynamically update if the part dims from partbuilder or part list changes. I think they need to be redefined or re-referenced with the new part list.

We have it setup in the office like that too, might want to be careful with that actually. Somebody might edit something in the Pipe Catalog, making all other references to that certain pipe/structure null and void.

We're still in the process of figuring out how to make it all work seamlessly. For example, I've already set it up for commercially available RCPC pipes; however somebody else needed HDPE pipes so we just agreed they would make a new pipe catalog for that.

If I recall correctly, it's doable. On my second drainage design project I found it too much of a hassle to try and recreate the parts list and (especially) the rules for the new C3D file, so I dragged and dropped it from my old project to the new one.

I have yet to get around to updating my template to already include this, we're still learning quite a bit as we go along.
