Duplicate a surface?

Im working on a grading plan and want to consider raising the site to cut down on my export of earthwork. What I would like to is take my PROPOSED SURFACE A and copy it along with the grading featues to a NEW SURFACE B. This way, if B doesnt work out, I can go back to A.

Im assuming I need a new surface and a new site?

Make a new surface.  paste proposed surface into it.   edit datum.

I cannot find a copy/paste in the surface flyout menu.

you have to expand the collections in the prospector view.  its not in the pull down menus.

The surface edit commands, including paste surface are also in the Ribbon. On the Modify tab hit the chevron arrow to expand the Edit Surface commands.

If you select a surface, this is the same contextual ribbon you will see.

You need to expand the surface and then the surface definition to see the surface edit commands.

Remember too that creating and pasting in this way maintains a dynamic link to the original surface which may or may not be required in all cases.

Using the AutoCAD COPY command with a base of 0,0,0 and paste to 0,0,0 removes the dynamic link

How would I handle grading objects and feature lines with the copied surface? I need a completely editable surface that wont affect the original.

Given my (bad) experiences with grading objects, I'd be inclined to do a File > Save As and work on this copy.....
