Drawing slow at validating data shortcuts

I have a large drawing in CSD '08 that we decided to break down in to individual networks and data reference in to each other to try to speed it up. That worked, however whenever I try to access the data shortcuts it takes a solid 20 minutes or more to Validate Data Shortcuts. I have each network referenced (Water, Sewer, Storm, Irrigation) along with Existing and Final Grade surfaces, and several alignments and profiles. I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done to speed up the validation with this many shortcuts, but if anyone has any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate the advice.

Thank you,

-Dale

I've found the network plays a huge part in the time it takes to update data shortcuts. I think you have to look to optimizing the network rather than C3D. For instance in the office I work in we have a WAFS and if the a referenced file is opened in a different office it takes the project a considerably longer time to load since the WAFS is checking repeatedly to see if it has the most recent version for each and every data shortcut in the file (C3D opens and closes the file for each DS instead of opening it just once).

C3D opens and closes the file for each DS instead of opening it just once - having the same problem with c3d 2013. Any suggestions?
