Dragging Labels

Dragging Labels

Since installing sp3, the label location and anchor dots do not appear when
any existing or created label is selected. One exception - if the label has
already been dragged the label location and anchor dots appear.

To get the label location and anchor dots to appear, I have to do something
to the label (like a standard move command), then the dots appear but of
course moving causes the anchor to be in the wrong location. I can then do
an undo and select the label and the dots appear. This may not seem like a
big deal, but when you need to drag many many labels it really cuts back on
production.

ALL label are responding this way. Old drawing, new drawing, alignment
label, profile label, section label, old label and new label... Why aren't
the editing dots appearing when I first select the label in the first place?

Is there a fix? Is anyone else having this problem? Should I do a clean
uninstall and reinstall?

Thanks,
Sandy

Sandy:

I suppose you are talking about "grips". Check HELP for several
combinations with grips.
Notably, Grips=0 (Off) Grips=1 (On).

My grips are on but the problem still exists. However, if I regenall, the
grips start appearing again. Could I have a graphics card issue?

Thanks Bill,
Sandy

Sandy:

It somewhat has a "flavor" of a graphics card problem. There are other
combinations of grip behavior that could be investigated first, however.
Do a quick "setvar" check and use *grip* as the search from your command
line.

I've seen this on a few machines, even prior to SP3. Regen typically
fixes the problem. Baffling and scary at first, but since the fix is so
easy, I've yet to search out the problem and/or solution.

Heve a similar problem: I click in the label grip, it changes colour to red. Moving the mouse then makes the red grip move to a new position, but when I click again, the label hasn't moved, and the grips are gone. Then I need to do a regen to get them to reappear. This does not happen with parcel segment labels, only with the general line labels.

Also why is there no "reset label" as with parcel segment labels on the right click menu?

Are your OSNAPs on? I seem to notice this causes a problem with Labels.

There might also be problems with certain objects. For exampleI can't seem to get a label to go onto a Survey figure properly. Using "Multiple Segment" gets a bunch of labels on there, and it's possible to then drag the labels off the line, but the labels won't move along the figure. Attempting to grab the triangle and move it causes the label to snap to the beginning of the Survey Figure. The "Single Segment" label doesn't seem to work at all.

I have had the same problem. Solution, zoom in really close, really close and click on the square box and drag off to the side. Then move out and click label again and drap the box to your desired location. Its a pain, but seems to work.

I went into is a bit more: I found that if the OSNAP is on, the labels won't drag, or they will drag until an autosnap marker appears. I'm amazed at the different behavior of line labels compared to parcel segment labels, although essentially they are the same thing. Once my OSNAP is off, I don't have a problem.
