Disappearing custom pull-down menu

I'm trying to configure Civil 3D 2006 and LDD 2006 companion for our office. My CUI setup is similar to the following:

- custom.cui (main)
--- acad (partial)
--- express (partial)
--- civil (partial)
--- land (partial)
- office.cui (enterprise)

We have a custom pull-down menu in our office.cui, but every time I close Civil3D or LDD2006comp and reopen, that office pull-down menu disappears. Everything else is there except that. When I checked in CUI several times, I got inconsistent outcomes, sometimes the pull-down is there in the workspace menu but just not showing on the screen, but sometimes it's not in the workspace menu and when editing workspace I find that our custom menu is unchecked.

I would try to fix it, only to lose our custom pull-down menu again when I close and reopen C3D.

Can anyone help? Thanx.

Hi,

Land and Civil 3D are separate Programs. You should not be trying to create
a menu system which allows you to try to run Land Commands in Civil 3D and
visa versa.

Hi Laurie, thanx but I am actually trying to configure the 2 programs separately, but I'm running into the same problem with both. I have our office.cui under enterprise, but our custom pull-down menu disappears when I reopen the program. Should I just place our pull-down menu under partial cui in the main.cui? I was hoping it would work in the enterprise so that I can have it as read-only.

Hi,

Make sure you save a workspace after you get it set the way you want.

As far as I can tell, AutoCAD will still not load more than 24 Pop menus at
startup. Are you exceedingly that limit?

Hi Laurie,

Is there any difference between the workspace in CUI versus the workspace toolbar? I thought they were the same. In order to show our custom pull-down menu I have to customize our workspace in CUI by checking our custom menu in the tree structure under enterprise. I then set that workspace to current in CUI. It seems to work when I Apply and Close, our pull-down menu would be shown. But once I close the program it'd be gone by the time I reopen it. When I check again in the CUI, either it's still there in the workspace menus but just not showing on the screen, or it wouldn't be there at all and I'd have to customize the workspace again. It's really strange, cause all our custom toolbars are unaffected.

I also knew there was a limit to the number of pop menus that can be shown, just didn't know it was 24. But to test that I got rid of all pull-down menus and just had our custom menu shown (the weird thing was the Express menu keeps showing up even though its unchecked). Unfortunately it still did the same thing. Our menu was gone when I reopen the program.

At this point I'm thinking of just partial loading our menu in the main.cui. I've probably spent enough time stuck on this one. But if you can offer further insights I'll be on the look out. Thanx!

Hi,

The only other information I have is plagiarised (with full
acknowledgements).

Got to the CADApps web site and look for the current Tech Tip.

Thanx for the help Laurie. Those were good infos in your website.

Well, I eventually figured out the problem of our disappearing pull-down menu. Apparently if anything gets messed up with your cui file the end result is that your affected pull-down menu will not show at all. In my case, I had a problem early on with my MNS file, I had missed putting a closing "<-" in one of my sub-pull-down menu so it ended up being under another sub-menu. I tried to correct it using the new CUI environment and it appeared that it was fixed in CUI, but that was the cause of the pull-down disappearing.

I simply corrected the problem in the original MNS file, loaded that revised MNS file as partial CUI, and from there it worked correctly.

And apparently I'm not alone, I've read similar situations for other people in this forum messing up their MNS or CUI files and the result was disappearing pull-down menus.

Anyway, thanks for the assist!
