What type of project?

If a road project, you can get cut/fill lines in several ways, one might be
to extract polylines from the cut/fill daylight lines (assuming you have
daylight subassemblies).

If you just have two surfaces that you're comparing, I would think contours
(and possibly an elevation analysis) from a volume surface would do the
trick.

When you say cut/fill lines, do you mean the limits of the cut/fill, or
depth values, as well?

This link to a civil3d.com article will provide what reviewing agencies and earthwork contractors are used to seeing in our area.

I expect at some point in the future ASDK will include a surface style for cut fill ticks. It was a standard feature in Land Desktop. (Is anybody out there?)

It's easy enough to get with spot elevations or points on grid. I'm not
sure adding it to surface display would be a wise move.

Cut Fill Ticks is a surface Label Style. The initial style that Adesk provided I think is shown on the website a few years ago. The Civil3d.com post, incorporates a few new twists to actually get the Marker to also be in color.

That post should give you enough information on how to do it yourself. If not, drop me an email.
