# Cut Fill Calculation Method

I m new in civil 3d road design so my question may be basic.when i prepare a corridor and procede to get cut and fill it appears as zero.i think i made some mistake at a stage when in section line we decide surfaces...kindly guide me step wise from section line selection to cut/fill calculation also give me the general concept regarding selecting surfaces during cut/fill volume calculation???

In short:

1. Create the surfaces
2. Create the sample lines and sample the surfaces
3. Computer materials and choose those two sections (created from the existing and proposed surfaces)
4. Create the table or report.

The two surfaces you will most likely be interested in are the EG and Datum surface created from the Corridor.

Also when creating the corridor top & datum surfaces be  sure to apply the appropriate "overhang correction" for top or bottom links and add a surface boundary to each surface.
