Creating Part Families

How do you create a part family so that it's an option in the Part Catalog? Do you copy the "out of box" xml files & edit them?

That's one way to do it... the other way (and probably less advisable) is through the partbuilder command. I spent a few days in that playing around trying to define new structures, and eventually scrapped that idea...If you happen to find any documentation on the part builder feature, do let us know 😉

Although not exactly the same, you may find the information on Content Builder in the Autodesk Building Systems Users Guide helpful. There is a correlation between Content and Part Builder

I spent quite some time with the partbuilder too & can't get a good result.

I have had some luck modifying copies of the out of box items, but really only adding/changing sizes and changing descriptions. If you search for posts regarding partbuilder you can find numerous warnings, it is very particular, exercise caution...
