Contour - 2D Area Calcs - How?

Civil 3d 2006 or 07.

How is the 2d Area of a contour defined.

I take the same feature line and do a table. I get a number.

I explode the feature line and list the contour. I get a different number.

Isnt the table 2d area contour line suppose to match the regualar exploded contour line which I listed?

Thanks

I thought it was, too. I am totally confused. i need to get out my
playdough and model it to see if it starts to make sense.

Hello mstg007,

When you explode the Contour lines, they are not longer Civil 3D objects,
the area should be wrong.

Care to elaborate? Why would a contour line (closed) have a different
area than a 2D polyline (closed) that has the same geometry?

Hello Jason,

Could you mind to post up your DWG file and Correct me if I am wrong.....

As far as I understand, the 2D surface area is calculated based on the surface
(TIN or grid) instead of the contour itself in Civil 3D.

Contours should be only a type of visualization(style), once explode, contours
become ACAD polyline and should miss the outer information (triangles). I
guest the 2D area should be less (still Depending on your contour distribution).

I'd like to test that just to see, but it sounds very plausible.
Thanks for the info, Andy.
