Connected Pipe Material

In labeling a structure in a pipe network. Where does the value for the Connected Pipe Material come from? I drew it as HDPE but it labels as RCP.

The drawing was originally in feet. But I inserted it in a Metric template a while ago. For some reason the Standard Structure style was still Imperial. I made a copy and edited it. But it still labels Conc. Pipe.

The label could be

a. hard coded to display RCP

b. displaying the pipe desription.

The <MATERIAL> component in the label style will read the pipe material as it appears in the Pipe's Properties dialog as seen in the attachement. Though you can type anything you want in this dialog, the materials that appear in a pipe by default are saved in the part itself. Partbuilder can be used to add more.

Thanks John,

I missed that one. The attached is what I had. It's probably better to use the description than the material.

I don't know where that part material came from. There was no Material associated with that part. I have gone in to the Partbuilder and added a material. So that should fix it for now. I'm going to have to go in to the template and do that for each part family I suppose.

"better to use the description than the material."

Not always. The description is blown to oblivion if you swap parts...

You will want to edit the part list in each template to make sure the parts are created with the correct material.

Right click on the part in the part list & choose Properties. You get the dialog attached. Set the material for each part.

Copy and over-write the part lists in other templates.

I don't see the attachment. BTW Adding the Material in the Partbuilder didn't work. I still get Reinforced Concrete.

I found where the Material is from but I haven't been able to change it yet.

You can't double-click on 'Reinforced Concrete' and replace the text?

You should be able to do that.

No. That field is grayed out. If I add a new part it picks up the material I added in the Partbuilder. But I can't seem to change it in the parts list.

Allen,

Here's a write-up to add custom materials to your pipe list. We define our pipes in our parts catalogue by the materials (RCP, PVC, HDPE). We use 'Swap Part' to change an HDPE pipe to RCP.

Bonus: A write-up to add custom properties to a pipe.

Thanks for the links! I'd wondered if I could edit the XML directly. Now I know Smiley Very Happy
