When I click on a civil 3d object the contextual ribbon will light up (which is fine) but instead of my cross hairs comming back in the drawing window I get the pointer that would be used to select an item in the ribbon (in the drawing area) and I have to click in the drawing area to get my cross hairs back or to grip edit the object or to delete the object.
Is there a option/setting I need to change to be able to get me cross hairs back after selecting a civil 3d object?
Just move to Civil 3d 2012, this worked just fine in '11...

imho that's a question of:
a) you have the property-window opened .... and
b) you have the property-window docked
otherwise it would work as expected (btw, also in 2011)

It seems that no matter how the properties windows is set on/off/docked/not docked the problem persists.
Did you try to install this hotfix?
And Repair process?
1)Go to Control Panel > Programs & Features > click on AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 > Uninstall/Change.
2)In the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair.
3) After the process, restart the computer and check the behavior of the product.
IMPORTANT: After the repair procedure does not install any customizations before testing the product. Autodesk does not support customization, only products in its default configuration.
Please, try the suggestions above and let me know your results.
Thanks for this tip. The hotfix didn't solve this issue but did help another user that was experiencing the program becoming unresponsive during simple operations like navagating around and saving.
Upon further investigation it was user specific problem, to fix the issue we did the secondary installer per Autodesk paper http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS18353335
Maybe this is the same thing as a repair install? Anyway it worked, Thank you!!
