What C3d are you using? 2010, 2011? Are you trying to get rid of the ribbon? Or are you trying to use it as plain acad?

There isn't a "classic" workspace in the Civil 3D menu.

You can either change your menu to the AutoCAD menu (Acad.cuix) or follow the tips here to create your own "classic" settings....

On the Manage tab select CUI interface, add a workspace for acad classic. Select done then reopen the cui (maybe this is not necessary but it worked for me. After you go back in highlight the newly created work space "acad classic" and select customize , on the customize tab scroll down to partial cui files expand acad and select all the items you want. You should now have a classic work space. If you choose tool bars you are going to have to muck around with there posistiion

You may also want to know that menu and toolbar development stoped in 2010. All commands introduced to the product since then should not be in any menu or toolbar.

HI stinton,

You may need to switch your workspaces

1. In command line type WSCURENT

2. then type "2D Drafting & Annotation"  (no quotes)

3. Enter

Luckily C3D uses ToolPallets. So I don't think they'll be dropped any time soon. I build custom ToolToolPallets that contain the new commands. That way I have the commands I use most frequently available quickly. I still have the Ribbon collapsed at the top of my screen for object sensitive and other commands.

Everything is futile. "Ashes to Ashes. Dust to Dust." But we might as well enjoy the battle while we're still swinging. Even Locutus had his temporary victory in the end.

Why not just run AutoCAD ? Start> All Programs > Autodesk > AutocAD Civil 3D 2011> AUTOCAD 2011, then change the workspace to AutoCAD Classic.
