Civil vs Civil 3D with Copy/paste

I have a user who claims they can open a file in
C3D 09 that has aerial data (contours, spots, roads, etc) and
paste the polyline contours into another file.

If they try this on the same machine (new powerful
PC running XP Pro unfortunately) with Civil 09 the paste fails unless
they flatten the plines. The plines have extended data from the map
functions.

The user believes there is difference between the
copy/paste functions in Civil compared to Civil 3D. I have tried to tell said
user that I highly doubt that this function varies between the two product but
that is a hard sell.

Has anyone seen or heard of such a problem? Does
anyone have any light to shed upon us?

The contours have extended data written to them by
Map. I will look into whether this is what is blocking the operation. I am
guessing that if the Map functions are disabled the clipboard won't understand
the data copied...

If any one has Civil & Civil 3D installed,
please let me know if you would perform a quick test for
me...

I am pretty sure Civil can't read the Map data. ( I can test monday at the office but I don't think i have CIvil and Civil 3d installed on the same machine..)

I am pretty sure that Civil will have difficulty with firing the Land Desktop Object Enabler. (ie, they can't see Land Desktop objects at all)

Thanks Matt. I sent my buddy two files to test. One
had plines with extended data, the other without. I think this is the
issue.

Well, if you upgrade your Civil 3D regularly, this will soon be a moot point. So long Civil.

Yeah. What a short run. I think Volo View had a longer life...

why? Map is included in C3D and Civil, and C3D should be able to utilize the LDT object enabler just fine.
AutoCad does not discriminate between what object enablers it can and cannot use. The C++ guys write them, and acad has
to use them when an object says to. Bugs are another story, but at least try wblocking and inserting to see if that
works compared to cut and paste.

Map isn't included in Civil, just Civil 3D. That's one reason you could purchase it cheaper then C3D.

James -

AutoCAD Civil is the neutered step son of Civil 3d. It is lacking the underlying Map engine.

If you migrated to Civil 2010, you also gave up your right to run Land Desktop Companion. The object enabler fails to load and hence to display Land Desktop points and contours in Civil 2010 (land desktop objects). Is it by design or defect, I don't know, don't care - but its been a pain in myside since we dropped a number of seats to Civil.
