Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion

I have recently installed AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 on my computer. After installation, it seemed to function correctly. However, the next day I went to use it and I received the following errors which are associated with Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion.

Initializing........
C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion
2008\AcMapWorkspace.arx cannot find a dll or other file that it needs.
.
C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2008\AcMapDwfApi.arx
cannot find a dll or other file that it needs.
Failed.

AcMapWorkspace.arx Load Failed
AcMapDwfApi.arx Load Failed
C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2008\AcMapDwfUI.arx
cannot find a dll or other file that it needs.

AutoCAD Express Tools Copyright © 2002-2004 Autodesk, Inc.
_.PROPERTIES

AutoCAD menu utilities loaded.
C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2008\aeccapp.arx
cannot find a dll or other file that it needs.
; error: ARXLOAD failed

I was unable to use any function associated with Land Desktop Companion. So, I unloaded the program and reinstalled it. Once again it worked until I closed out of the program. I am now receiving the same error message.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you may be suffering from the usual problem

The program called "AutoCAD Civil-3D Land Desktop Companion" is the old software we have been calling "Land Desktop" or "LDT" or "LDD" for a number of years now.

The program called "Autocad Civil-3D" is a brand-new program that is largely incompatible with the old Land Desktop program. It is the replacement for Land Desktop, though, and Land Desktop ships in the same box as Civil-3D. They are two completely separate programs, however.

This forum is for Civil-3D. There is another forum for Land Desktop. Which program are you trying to use?

Did you do anything like load an .ARG file from Land Desktop into Civil-3D, or something like that?

The following is a fix for 2007, modify itr for use
with 2008 and give it a go.

AcMapWorkspace.arx error in Land Desktop 2007 or Land Enabled Map® 2007

Published date: 2006-09-26
ID: TS1057107

Applies
to:
Autodesk® Land Desktop
2007

Issue

You installed Land Desktop 2007 on a computer that had or used to have Map®
3D 2006, Civil 3D® 2006, or Land Desktop 2006 installed. When you tried to use
Map functions in Land Desktop 2007 or Land Enabled Map 2007, you received
the following error message:

C:\Program Files\Autodesk Land Desktop 2007\AcMapWorkspace.arx cannot
find a procedure that it needs.

Solution

This issue occurs because the file search paths are pointing to the 2006
files for Map® functionality. You need to remove these references from your
Land Desktop 2007 AutoCAD® profiles using the following methods:

Land Desktop

  1. Start Land Desktop from the Autodesk Land Desktop 2007 icon.
  2. At the command prompt, enter OPTIONS.
  3. In the Options dialog box, click the Files tab.
  4. On the Files tab, expand Support Files Search Path.
  5. Select C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\GIS\FDO\2.0.
  6. Click Remove.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close Land Desktop, and then restart the program.

Land Enabled Map

  1. Start Land Enabled Map from the Autodesk Land Enabled Map 2007 icon.
  2. At the command prompt, enter OPTIONS.
  3. In the Options dialog box, click the Files tab.
  4. On the Files tab, expand Support Files Search Path.
  5. Select C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\GIS\FDO\2.0.
  6. Click Remove.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close Land Desktop, and then restart the program.

You should repeat these procedures for all of the custom AutoCAD
profiles you have created in Land Desktop 2007 or Land Enabled Map
2007.

We experienced the same problem here trying to select an alignment from LLD.  We are running LDDC 2008 (32bit) in Windows 7 Pro (64bit).

The Error was:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion 2008\aeccapp.arx

cannot find a dll or other file that it needs.

; error: ARXLOAD failed"

Launch LDD

Open OPTIONS - FILES - SUPPORT FILES SEARCH PATH.  There should be a path listed as:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AxUi

Everything in Windows 7 32bit is installed under C:\Program Files (i86)\

Change the above directory of

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AxUi

to

C:\Program Files (i86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AxUi

Everythig seems to work now.  You may need to reassociate the project.

This maybe a flaw in the 32BIT installation process.

Hope this helps others,
