Civil 3D 2008 Service Pack 2 - Update

Civil 3D 2008 Service Pack 2 - Update
The version of Civil 3D 2008 Service Pack 2 that was released Thursday
afternoon (East Coast Time) had problems with the install on some user
machines. We tracked down the problem to a custom action that was trying to
backup and restore the profiles for Civil 3D. If this error happened, the
installer had already updated the Microsoft install subsystem to say that
the service pack was installed. This notification would then block
subsequent attempts to reinstall the service pack. This error only happened
on some machines. If your install was completed without errors, no further
action is required.

The custom action was removed from the installer, and the service pack was
refreshed on the download site Friday afternoon. This new installer will NOT
backup or restore your profiles, so be sure to back up before applying the
service pack.

If you had an issue with the earlier version of the installer, you will have
to uninstall Civil 3D and reinstall before applying SP2. The new installer
will not fix the earlier install error.

We are sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused.

thanks for the update.
just for the record. i installed it on about 40 machines yesterday and only ran into problems on 3 of them. i think this bug was only related to issues on only 1of those 3.

I was wondering, has anyone else encountered this? When I try to uninstall, I get a message that says:

The following problems were encountered which prevented AutoCAD Civil3D from updating successfully:

-Fata error during installation.

I'm assuming the fatal error has to do with the SP2 installation. I have tried 4 times to uninstall, and I'm definately clicking on uninstall, not repair/reinstall. When I try to remove SP2 it says "This patch is not applied to this product". So basically I can't uninstall either one. Has anyone else had this happen? What should I do?

Will the authorization information be preserved?

The patch was applied successfully however the amount of fatal errors and unexpected program closures have increased.

Could this be related?

Continuing with the error reporting

also...

Peter, can you address licensing in regard to uninstalling the product.
Any suggestions how to minimize down time with the R/R of the product.

It should be. I've never had to reauthorize after a reinstall/repair.
I don't pretend to know how the authorization works, but I've always
been under the impression that it stores that information in a "hidden"
part of the hard drive.

Hi,

I suspect the Boot sector as I've found licencing available after a Format
C: and reinstall O/S and Land Desktop exercise.

I have exactly this same problem. I tried to install the first SP2, which didn't install correctly. Now I need to reinstall the program to be able to then reinstall SP2 but I can't get the program uninstalled now! I get that same fatal error during uninstall. Does anyone have a solution?

Remove/Reinstall fixed things with no need to reauthorize.

Ever since I installed the SP2, my program crashes about every hour or so - mostly with either zoom extents or when working with large xrefs. Autodesk really should do more testing before putting out a service pak and letting us install it only to be troubled with new and more serious issues.

Have you updated your video card driver?

Was this an issue for the Land Desktop SP2 as well? The reason I ask is I got the attached error message while installing the Land Desktop SP2. After the error the progress bar started going backwards like it was rolling back the service pack. However, after that Land Desktop says I have SP2 installed. But my error message had to do with profiles, so it sounded related to what you described with the original SP2 for Civil 3D.
