Cant't get custom parameters published to model parameters in Part Builder

I've created several custom model parameters and have been able to succcesfully bring them in to the size parameters of my part. However I cannot get them to publish to model parameters even thought they are listed in the XML file of the part. Does anyone have any tips or experience with adding custom parameters? Thanks
