I know my surface is there but somewhere I have turned it off. Grrrrr.
Not on a Monday morning and a rush job to beat. I know the surface is there but I'm not able to see it.
Can you paste a surface from a different dwg?

First: Make sure all your Layers are turned on
Open Toolspace:
+Surfaces
Right Click on Surface Name
Left Click on Surface Properties.
Information Tab: change the surface style to just about anything to see if the surface comes in.
Also: check the lightbulb in the lower right hand corner of your Civil 3D window. Make sure it's yellow and not red. If it is red, right click in your drawing window, select Isolate object, and end isolation.
I keep losing my surface.
I created it last night and was ready to print it and this morning its gone.
The elevation labels are there but the surface is not.
All the layers are on and I did what you suggested yet there is no surface.
Actually this is a different dwg than the one when i first posted this question.. No clue here what I did.
Thanks
