COGO Points description and styles

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to set a default point description to match the point number. I need to match the point number and the point description as per below

  • Point # = 1 - Description = 1
  • Point # = 2 - Description = 2
  • Point # = 3 - Description = 3
  • and so on...

Does anybody know how to do it, if possible at all? If not, is there a quick way to add this description once the points are alrady created?

Also, it seem I can't make the default style and label to work. I edited the Feature Setting on the Setting tab of the Toolspace and I made sure there's no child override. When I open the point creation menu, my default styles are there (grayed out), but when I create the points, they pick up another style and another label style. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks for your help.

Javier

If I'm reading your post right it sounds like you want a point label style that displays only the point number. If you are trying to overwrite the descriptions with the point numbers, then what is your ultimate goal? Give some more context and there may be a better way to achieve what you want.

As for getting the default label and style to work, check settings to see that disable description keys are set to "true" and that you have no point groups with overridding styles.

This thread may help:

Do you actually have to overwrite the description with the point number of will having it look that way on the screen do? You could create a style with 2 components. The first would be called Point Number and show the point number. The second would be Description and would reference the point number. I can't be any more specific than that because I can't access the software right now.

Ian,

Thanks for your reply. I didn't get any email notifying you replied to my post. There must be a setting somewhere to configure that. Anyway, back to the point(s), literally.

I have been able to solve the style issue by setting the Disable Description Keys to "true". Thanks for that.

Regarding the point number matching point description, I couldn't find a way yet to do this. This exercise is about showing setout points along the geometry points of an alignment. This points will be displayed on the plan, with the right label style (a circled number and a leader to the geometry point). Then, I have to project those points on the relevant profile view and, of course, display a label showing the same number than on plan view. Unfortunately, the projection label only lets you choose between "source object name" and "description", and other non-relevant fields. The former will produce a label reading "Cogo Point #". Apparently, you cannot get rid of the words Cogo Point. The later will display the description of the point. Hence, I need to match point number and description. I can of course do it manually, but it's a tedious process, so I was hoping there's a way to speed things up.

Anyway, thanks again for you reply mate. You solved half the issue, which is not bad.

Please let me know if you can think of a solution of the other half of the issue.

Have a good one.

Allen,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I need to match the point number and description. Please see my reply to Ian for clarification.

Any idea how to do this?

Cheers

A lisp could be written pretty quickly to put the Pt# into the description. Would you want this for all points, selected points, or by point group?

Jeff,

Thanks for you reply. Unfortunately I don't have any experience at all with LISP routines, so I am not able to write it myself. It'd be awesome if you are able to do it and pass it on. We don't tend to use points for any other reason, so I guess a LISP for all points will be sufficient, althought it'd be good to know how to change that in case there are other points around.

Anyway, thanks again mate.

Have a good one

Cheers

Save and load (using Appload) the attached lisp (C3D2010-2013). Run the command ptnum2desc.

Replaces all of the point descriptions with the respective point numbers.

Ah, I see. The projected objects are pretty limited. Seems like a good wish list item for a future release: profile point objects that can actually display point data.
