C3D 2014 Delete Duplicate Points

Civil 3D 2014

Trying to build a surface from grading objects and contours.  I am getting 2k+ duplicate points.  I've run OVERKILL five times, each time the dialog is reporting that duplicates are being removed.  Great, but when I try to build my surface afterwards, they are all still there.

Any advice on how to strip them completely out of the drawing?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Do you have points that site on a breakline or user contours that cross a breakline?  Is this for a survey?

If it's for a survey, typically anything I use to generate a breakline I will not add to the surface.  This could be the problem??

Thanks for the reply.  It is a dredging overdrepth surface.  The contours are created from a 3D model, and are combined with 3D polyline grading entities.  I kept all contours from instersecting the grading objects.

To compound the issue, when I bring the same data into LDD 2008, I see a data transformation error, where my max elevation is a Z value (e.g. 548 ft), and a minimum coordiante is a negative value.

I've run 5 successive OVERKILL's and they are still in the drawing.....

Have you tried using Mapclean on the file?

Thank you Jay. I've run mapclean several times on it. The actual entities that are duplicates are gone, but there is still XYZ data that's duplicating. That's where I am stuck.

Would it be possible to post the drawing, or a portion of it that still exhibits the duplicate points?

Jeff,

Too big to attach, sorry. I have an "expert" from my team looking at it now.

I really appreciate the offer, and will let you know what we find out.

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,

I guess the following technique would be worth a try.

1] command _EXPORTPOINTS to a .CSV format

2] open the .CSV file in the great NoteTab Light freeware

3] VIEW => OPTIONS => TOOLS => SORT REMOVES DUPLICATES => OK

4] MODIFY => LINES => SORT=> ASCENDING

Doing so, you'll have the 100% sureness that your point list will contain unique XYZ triples.
