C3D 2013: What Codes to connect 2 points for closure in PNEZD (comma delimited)

Hi all,

In my AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013, I used the Survey Database => Figure-LineCodes =>Import=> Import point file via PNEZD (comma delimited):

It ran OK. But 2 points (16 and 27 in the txt file or 10016 and 10027 in the DWG)  are not connected - see the attached pdf file. What Codes do I have to use for connecting these 2 points?   Please kindly help and advise.

Thanks in advance,

Scott Chang

If you want to connect those two points or close the figure, the code for point 27 should be BLDG CLS. (provided that CLS is your close command in the linework code set)

Hi Stacy, Thank you very much for your nice, valuable response.

I followed your advice, changed "27,.......,......,.....,BLDG, E" to "27,......,.....,.....BLDG,CLS" in my txt file, and then did a new, fresh  Figure-LineCodes => Import => Import point files by using PNEZD (comma delimited). It worked and I got the desired BWG of the Line-closed BLDG (fromt Points 16 thru 27).  But, I saw the Point Numbers 1, 2, ....., 50, instead of 10001, 10002, ......., 10050 in the new Point Numbers (in the first column) - see the attached file for details. Could you please tell me why I did not get the new Point Numbers of 10001, 10002, 10050 in the first column as I had in the previous project before?   Please kindly help and respond again.

Many Thanks again,

Scott Chang

P. S.  One more reason to ask the above-mentioned question is:   I am going to do Figures => Create figure interactively for creating a closed HOUSE from Points 28-33, 47, and 48 for the first time. I wonder whether I should use the old Point Numers (1, 2, ..., 50, or the new Point Numbers (10001, 10002,...., 10050).

The point numbers in the drawing (if renamed) are independent of the text file.  If you import the same file again and the numbers don't match the drawing, Civil 3D will consider them a new point.

1.

If you want to update the description data for your existing renumbered points, you would only have to renumber your text file and re-import.  You would be prompted to address the duplicate points, but you would choose to overwrite the points.

2.

If you had done alot of editing of the point labels such as rotating or dragging, you could create a point file that contains only the point number and description field.  This would contain the new point numbers and the edited descriptions.  Before you re-import the new file, you will need to create a point file format so that Civil 3D knows how to read the data.  When you then import the file, you would choose the option to merge the points.  This will only update the description information and leave all of your edits intact.

The second method is a little more difficult to setup, so I would recommend that you study the tutorials on how to create a point file format.
