C3D 2013: Survey Databases-Network & Figures-LineCodes are "Must Have"?

Hi all,

I used AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 for Surveys (by SDC Publications) to do Practice 3b. Importing Data - Figures (Task 1 - Set up a network and Import a survey on Pages 3-23 to 3-24 of the book) that has Survey2 Data B => Networks => Figures-LineCodes => Import => Import point file of PNEZD (comma delimited). Task 2 - Review the survey data (on Pages 3-25 to 3-26) show the lines and the buildings created from the imported points.

I created a new Survey Database in my AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 program and a txt file:

1,-77.000000,38.000000,10.1001,FdIP
2,-77.015071,38.870909,11.2002,SamplePt
3,-77.015066,38.870745,12.3003,SamplePt
4,-77.015074,38.87-615,13.4004,samplePt
5,-77.015184,38.870868,14.5005,SamplePt
6,-77.015346,38.870614,15.6006,SamplePt
7,-77.015183,38.870744,16.7007,SamplePt
8,-77.015185,38.870631,17.8008,SamplePt
9,-77.015715,38.870996,10.1111,Boundary B
10,-77.014869,38.871098,10.2222,Boundary
11,-77.015242,38.870287,10.3333.Boundary BC CLS

I have a hard time to import this txt file via the Import Events. And I don't know how to create the "Networks" in my new Survey Database. Do I have to have the "Networks" and "Figures-LineCodes" created for importing my txt file? How can I get the "Networks" and "Figures-LineCodes" in my new Survey Database?  From the Help of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013: A survey network is a series of interconnected lines that represent the observered intrument setups, or stations. It contains all associated know control points, known directions, setups, and observations. I am lost in this area of getting "Networks" and "Figures-LineCodes" done for importing my txt file.  Please kindly help and advise me as much as you can.

Thanks in advance,

Scott Chang

Scott,

You don't have to have the figure prefix database to import a point file.  It is needed only if you want to apply properties to figures.

To create a new network when importing survey data, on the third section of the Import Survey Data wizard, click the Create New Network at the bottom of the dialog box.

Also, take a look at line for of your point data, the " - " in the number will cause an error on import

Hi Stacy, Thanks for your nice, valuable response.

My txt file format was Point #, X (Long.), Y(Lat.), Raw Description. I deleted the "-" in front of X and imported the revised txt file.  I got the "No Match found" error. I guess I have to convert the X (Long.), Y (Lat.) to Easting, Northing first, before I do the Import Events. Is my guessing right?  Please kindly answer my question and respond again.

Many Thanks,

Scott Chang
