Back up via Civil 3d? Regarding info from a TDS Recon.

I got a new computer ready for my desk.  We also have a new RTK surveying instrument that is ready to be used.  I need to back up my old recon data collector.  The fastest way to back it up is through copying all the .RAW files in one click to my desk top.  But, can Civil 3D use a .RAW file?  I have been using .CSV files in C3D.  The problem is, I can't copy all my jobs at once if I want to get them in .CSV format.

I'm worried that even if I save all my job's .RAW files, I won't be able to use them in the future?  We've been using .RAW files for the last several years with Eagle Point software.

What should I do?  The guy is coming later today to grab my recon when he comes to get his payment for the new RTK system.  Thanks...

TDS Recon RAW files can be converted by TDS Survey Link (included with your CIvil 3D install) to a FBK file, which can be imported into the survey database. To back up that data collector, you should probably dump everything in the data directory to your local machine. Depending on which RTK system you're getting, it's possible that the RAW files can simply transfer over to the new collector.

How would you dump everything out of that directory into my computer?  I copied the .RAW files using active sync.  Thanks for the help.

I don't have that physical data collector sitting on my desk (only an emulator) so I can't say for sure how, but I'm almost positive that Active Sync is not needed - you should be able to see that directory as a folder under My Computer. I know Bill Berry is very familiar with data transfer using this collector, perhaps he will come by and offer some solutions.

Here I am.

I do not have a Recon but have a Ranger but I assume they work the same.  I would just go through my Ranger's Windows and copy to a Thumb Drive.

They operate the same. To the best of my knowledge, the only noticeable difference is the presence of a physical keyboard (or lack thereof.)
