The simple commands like copy and erase don't work right. The cursor disappears in the drawing window and Civil 3D needs to be closed and reopened to get it back, and it is near impossible to edit a pipe and have the changes stick.
Pretty darn frustrating when the simple commands don't work and pretty darn terrifying when dealing with a pipe network.
That is not to mention the fact that it took me at least THREE tries to get my subscription access working to even report a problem over the last few months - and when I went in to report these latest bugs - and update a case file - the page would not let me make any changes.
What is going on?
When looking at the discussion groups to get any help - there is often one plaintive cry for help question and cricket cricket no help or answer for the person. I have resorted to doing a general google search on the web. I have been getting better help from random folks out in the cyber ether than I have gotten from any of your discussion groups -which is where I was refered to this morning by one of your own support staff.
I am really beginning to question the value of an expensive Autidesk subscription.

Carol,
Have you posted in the Civil 3D discussion group?
I've had zero issues with C3D 2012 - working great - and certainly no issues with basic commands or pipe editing.
More info would help......
What are your system specs?
Have you checked your video card driver at the certified hardware list http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/cert?siteID=123112&id=16391880?
Is this in one specific drawing? AUDIT, Purge, Purge RegApps?
Insert into new drawing or WBLOCK out to a new drawing?
Is it in multiple drawings? Login as a different user and try to reproduce the issue or try and reproduce on a different system? Repair Civil 3D? Reset Civil 3D - http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=14929107&linkID=9240697 - Note: the instructions will have to be modified for 2012 - I'm looking if there is a newer one for 2012...
That's just a start. You could also post your drawing for others to look at.
Hope that helps.
Best regards,
AWood
i'm think it's your hardware, or you didn't install correctly.
Are you uisng an older setup files, or even from a different computer. I have had problem in the past with this.
I know it's a pain, but I might uninstall, and reinstall the software and pay close attension to any promps.
also try, Turn off hardware acceraction, then trun it back on. This was a problem in C3D 2011.
I'm sure it is exciting when the subscription letter comes and the first thing you want to do is get the new release, but I would resist.
Most folks here will tell you, even your vendor would say "wait until the first SP comes out" Heck, I wait a year - let them work it out , don't find out during production.

....Well if we all shelve the product, there is no one to say what are the gliches and no one to work it out!.....
This DG seems like a pretty good sounding board. I see from your signature you remain partial to the previous version.

Carol,
Since you seem to be on Subscription, I would be very surprised if Autodesk did not personally help you if you file a Support Request through their subscription website. I have always received great help from them when running into issues with their software. I'd give this a try, but this discussion group is helpful as well. It does sound like you might have hardware issues or other conflicting software on your system.
Good luck!

Since these groups are peer to peer support. One of the problems in installing a new release immediately is that there isn't a large base of users with much experience. I may install one seat to test within the month. But I wont roll it out until late summer or early fall.

I've had a lot of the same issues with 2012. Keep sending the CER's and submitting the support requests. That's why we are only paying $995 per seat for subscription - because we supply them with all of the testing feedback they need to complete the release. If you're a new subscription customer, I think you can still request to be able to go back to a previous version. Move back to 2011. That's where the value of the subscription lies - you get to go back and use a version that works.
Its sad, but we have all grown used to the shoddiness of the initial releases and accept the fact that we pay thousands of dollars for something that doesn't work. Look at it like you're buying expensive wine - you have to let that age before you can drink it, too.

Hi Carol-
I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing multiple issues with the 2012 product. If you could answer some of the questions previous users posted such as what your system specs are and the steps to reproduce these issues, we will be happy to help.
For the pipes issues specifically, are these custom piarts from a previous release or are they stock parts straight out of 2012?
Regarding the the issues you are experiencing with Subscription Center, I would suggest contacting the Autodesk Business Center at 1-800-538-6401 and they will be happy to help with any issues with your ability to log in and create support cases.
I did a small boundary in C3d 2012 after installation as a test and had a line of text in it I needed to edit..couldn't. Tried to erase it. Couldn't. Hit the undo button until I got rid of it. Retyped it. Just for kicks, tried to erase it. Couldn't. Ended drawing, opened it back up, could change it or erase it. Once. Then couldn't erase it or change it. Ran audit. No errors, but after it ran, could edit it or change it. Once. Then couldn't. Sticking with 2011.
That happens to mne every darn day too. I have to audit the drawing like ten times an hour because of THAT glitch.
I have noticed more problems when Carbonite - my backup starts up when I am drawing. I set it to not turn on during the day, but it won't behave. But these problems happen in nearly all my drawings. Suddenly I lose my cursor in the drawing window or I cannot edit text. I have tried reinstalling, still the same thing happens. I have the proper certified video card. I am running Windows 7 on a Windows i7 Quad core with 9 GB RAM. I sent dwgs to the support staff and they said yes it happens, but they didn't give me any real advice except to audit.
I don't mind a computer bug here and there but on the COPY or EDIT Command?? A MISSING CURSOR? It doesn't inspire confidence when you need to build a road corridor.
With the pipes, I started the drawing in Civil 3D 2011. It won't let me change the rim elevation on just some manholes. Others, it works fine. Most it won't let me change the pipe material. I go to pipe properties, I fill in the material , then when I hit enter, it goes back to being blank. I cannot for the life of me change the pipe material. At all. I have to totally create a new pipe and pray I get it totally right the first time, cause I won't be able to change it.
