Automated intersection design

I recently came across some very useful plugins for Civil 3D on this website: http://www.civil3dtools.com.
Especially the avi demo of their soon to be released ARD Intersection plugin is impressive; it automates a lot of tedious work you otherwise have to do with standard Civil 3D
They als offer a free plugin for automated passing lane design.

If that impresses you, don't go to http://www.akgsoftware.com/ - your
heart might not be able to handle the excitement....

I see that the Civil 3D tools will also be offering a landscape product to run with C3D. I like the idea of it, I just wish it were made to work with C3D files as base information (Xref) but only require a vanilla version of AutoCAD to operate.

For intersection design I've seen another product --> http://gis.langan.com/IntersectionBuilder

I haven't had a chance to try any of these yet but they are the kind of thing I was expecting to be built into Civil 3D from the beginning.

Hi,

You can't use the C3D DTM and alignment APIs without running inside C3D.

To convert the Lanscaping program to run in AutoCAD we would need to write
our own functions for these processes. The cost of programming would go out
the door and the sales price would reflect this.

On another note about the program, I finally resolved an issue yesterday on
getting AVI files to run from inside the CHM help file. We will be issuing
an updated version with this help system some time in the next couple of
weeks.

Hi,
I checked out the IntersectionBuilder program you mentioned and I think that the ARD Intersections program from Civil 3D Tools is far more sophisticated, so check out the avi demo (about 12 minutes)

Hi Jason,

I saw a Vestra demo a couple of months before the introduction of Civil 3D. It looked quite nice, but I decided to wait for Autodesk.
I haven't seen a demo since, but I will download a trial version of the software to evaluate it.

You're right - from what I have seen, the ARD Intersection program looks
more sophisticated. The Intersection Builder is a simple, low cost utility
to automate the creation of curb return alignments and profiles - and it's
available today. 🙂

Hi Jon,

I received the program files to build the install for ARD Intersection
today.

I expect that we'll have betas of the install process by the end of the
week, so it should be available quite soon.

We have been held up by the weird behaviour of CHM files called from AutoCAD
finding the path to the AVI files in the help systems for our software.

I believe we resolved that today which opens the way to start on ARD
Intersections.

We also have about 90% of the code completed for creating alignments for a
variety of items including turn lanes, medians, splitter islands, and three
types of cul-de-sacs. More of this later.
