Autocad mulitplying everything by 12

Most annoying issue.   I really have never used civil 3d much, I have done pretty much everything in 2d.   We do a lot of architectural/civil engineering work and I understand the difference between the two sets of files (architectural files are multplied by 12 and you get inches and feet, everything drawn in inches).

My problem is in my z values and my storm network (structure and pipe sizes) when I am working in my engineering files.   everything is divided by 12.   for instance when I draw a polyline for a network, a 72 foot pipe is registering in at a 6 foot pipe, which throws all my slopes off.   Annoying right?     THEN for my surfaces, when I input a surface of elevations around 600 feet, they are coming in at 50 feet unluess I multiply my values by 12.

This has got to be the stupidest thing/setting that I have to toggle on/off.     Basically my understanding is that my 2D model is in engineering scale (feet, tenths and hundreths), but my 3D model is still stuck in that dumb architectural scale or whatever where everything is being recognized in arch scale!!!

This is very frustrating.   My last resort is to call autodesk and get a solution.   Anyone know any tech guys that can help me with this?   either at autodesk or anyone who has good knowledge of this???    Please advise ASAP this is the 2nd time I've been held up fo this!!

have you started from a correctly set up template?

Where are you getting the information that the elevation is 50 feet from? Is it from a label, the tooltip that pops up when you hover over the surface?

I suggest you check the units of the drawing first.

On the Home tab of the civil 3d ribbon, Pallettes panel select Toolspace

In the Toolspace pallette, select the Settings tab.

Right click the drawing name at the top of the settings tree and select Edit Drawing Settings...

On the Units and Zone tab, set the Drawing Units: to Feet, and make sure the check box next to Set AutoCAD variables to match is checked.

Click the OK Button.

Hopefully this will fix your issue.

I suggest you look through the Getting Started Section of the Civil 3d User's Guide, especially the Understanding Settings and Working with Drawings Sections, then move onto the tutorials.

This worked great for my elevations, pipe lengths inverts and slopes!   now the only thing is my 12" pipe is drawing at 12 feet!     I am sure this is a different setting however I will keep plugging away!   Thanks!

If anyone has a good storm sewer template they use let me know because it takes a long time adjusting to your own settings 🙂
