It is random, but it mostly happens when Im switching from a layout tab to the model tab. When I go to switch back to the model, nothing shows up in my drawing? I try to zoom in and out, but it says "already zoom in/out as far as possible" and when I my cursor is just sitting on the screen, it gives reading to my alignments, but instead of giving me the station and offset, it says "value to large to format+t"????
The only way I can get my drawing back is to close out and re-open? Is anyone else having this problem? or know how I can fix it?
Thanks
I haven't seen it. What version are you running?
Next time this happens. Try a Zoom > Extents followed by a Zoom > Object > Last. It might also help if you set a View for your drawing area and tried restoring it. I'm thinking that you have one entity way out in space and for some reason you're getting a Zoom Extents when switching back to the Model Space tab.

Im running civil 3d 2013
I have tried that and it doesnt help. The only way to fix it is to close out and re-open, losing all my stuff I did inbetween saving and this happening of course.
If it's that serious. Have you considered a repair or a reinstall?

ok here is what I found.
I can get my drawing back if I create a window and zoom into it. The problem is that Im zooming SO far away from it and I cant get back. Not sure why its doing this? just all of a sudden?
When I get zoomed back in, I can work in it no problem, but when I go to zoom-extents, I zoom way far out again and cant get back unless I do windows?? Its like something is out there, but I never did it before (and I have been working on the same drawing for 3 weeks)
Now I recognize the problem. When it happened to me. It turned out to be a leftover Transient Glyph. If that's what happened in your case. See: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-Civil-3D-General/AECC-TRANSIENTGLYPHS-What-is-it/m-p/2334464

I know this does not fix your problem but could help you with working with the drawing that is causing it.
If you have alignments in the drawing as you mention, you can zoom to the alignment from the Toolspace.
1. Left click on the alignment name in the prospector tab of the Toolspace to select it.
2. Right click and select "Zoom to"
The above should zoom the drawing so that the alignment you have chosen fills the drawing area.
This also works for other civil 3d entities.
When you hit the point when you get the warning "Already zoomed out as far as possible" you can type RE and hit enter to run the Regen command which besides redrawing all the drawing entities will reset the zoom extents, allowing you to zoom out again. You might have to run the regen command again once you find your drawing objects.
so...I found out what my problem was. The reason why my drawing is zooming far away is because of my cross section ticks for my r/w and utilities. I add them to my cross sections, and when I hit zoom extents, my drawing is gone. But when I take them off my cross sections, zoom extents works fine. Glad that is all figured out
Now, the question is how do I get my ticks on my cross sections? I created alignments down my r/w and utility lines, created a profile and proposed profile ( proposed for my ticks to follow), and added them to my cross sections. Why is this not working??
If you're referring to applying Marker Styles to Section Views using "Profile Grade Lines" we get that here too.
A bunch of markers placed down around 0,0 which causes the view to be as you describe.
We have the insertion point of our blocks used in these Marker Styles set at 0,0 like Jeff suggests to be the cause.
Rather than have a bunch of weird block insertion points to worry about we just zoom around it here.
I understand that, but I have never had this problem before. I have inserted tons of ticks, base point 0,0,0, and this has never happend before.
Even if something is inserted at 0,0,0, you are still able to zoom extents, see everything, and zoom right back to your drawing.
attached is my drawing
Thanks
If I attach Markers using profile grade lines to Section Views I see this all the time here.
If some one has a way to avoid it I'm all ears because yes it can be annoying.
OK, I'm seeing this as well in the drawing greenju17 posted. It appears to be a bug in C3d. It is locating the markers correctly in the X direction, but no Y direction offset is applied to place them in the correct locations in the sectionviews. Submit bug reports, if you haven't already.
Our issue is a lot different in that all of the extra Markers we see are around 0,0 and I haven't seen the issue described in your OP where you see the"already zoom in/out as far as possible" message.
When I switch from Layout to MS things go back to where I was prior to the switch.
In the attached drawing there are many markers directly below the section view. Haven't seen that one.
One thing that's different in our workflow is the alignments used for the utilities are "Miscellaneous" type rather than Centerline, (not sure that would even matter).
And then the EG surface is sampled for the profile grade lines so the bottom of the markers tie to EG.
Like AllenJessup mentioned before, if you use the View command to create a model view (I call mine "Home") then no matter how far you find yourself away from the project, you can always type -v R Home and it goes back to where you want to be. It's really easy to set this up on a ribbon button if you don't like to type.
