Annotative Text & Dimension Styles and dwg file Errors

I recently decided to begin using annotative text styles and dimensions. So far, it has been an exercise in extreme frustration.

I'll set the mood: Simple concept drawing set. All goes well until I begin to dimension and annotate my plans. (Annotated using quick-leaders.)

Upon the introduction of annotative objects, drawing file becomes very unstable. Civil 3D crashes repeatedly - about every 5 minutes. It appears that there is a correlation between autosaves and crashes. I.e., more often than not, it appears that Civil 3D goes down soon after an autosave. (Only AFTER the introduction of annotative entities.)

After each crash, I run a recovery on the dwg file. This is some of the log:

200 Blocks audited

Total errors found 39 fixed 39

Running audit internally from the dwg file never returns an of the above issues. Upon entering my recovered dwg file, all of my quick-leaders are disassociated.

Moreover, upon exiting Civil 3D to reboot, I receive the following error:

INTERNAL ERROR: Attempt to access AecUiBaseServices after shutdown! (See attachment)

Also, I am receiving the following on a semi-regular basis:

FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0004 Exception at 620651d0h.

The 620651d0h bit of the note appears to be a hex memory address? Is this correct? Could I have bad RAM modules?

Anyhow, I realize there is a lot to digest here. I hope I've been clear. I would appreciate any feedback as I am very frustrated right now.

Thanks.

I have come to the conclusion that there is a repellant in either Civil 3D
or Annotative text. I gave up on the combo. (For now!)

I have also noticed that annotation does not work well with Civil 3D.
If I start a drawing using the default acad.dwt template and have simple
linework with annotative text and dimensions then there are no errors.
If I have any Civil 3D objects in the drawing, then annotation causes
errors like what you mentioned.

I started trying to do some stuff with Annotative text in Land Desktop 2008, and shelved it there as well. Too many issues, not enough time to try and sort through them and figure out what was going on. And due to other bugs, we're actually still using Land Desktop 2007 - maybe we'll try LDT2008 again with SP2. Right now, the only time we start up LDT2008 is to do that "Extract data from Civil-3D objects", so we can send a Land Desktop project to one of our clients that prefers that to XML.

Annotative Object are nice to have, however, the one full set we did in 2008 and Civil 3d is causing me to pull me hair out. It looks like I need the next service pack to fix the XREF scale list which bogs the system down as it tries to scale run the JIT code to correctly scale the text.
