Annotate Polysolid More specifically Z elevation (Height)

Help needed to dimension Z elevation of polysolids and revolved objects.

I draw a polysolid and trying to annotate (Dimension) the height of the item. Also, I am trying to dimension the z difference between 2 revolved items. I am using the Front view but I can not dimension the Z elevation.

Hi,

I (and probably others) are having difficulties with trying to determine what a 'polysolid' is. If this is not a Civil 3D-specific item, I would recommend taking this discussion to the AutoCAD discussion groups. If it IS a Civil 3D item, can you please elaborate.

Rick

Polysolid is a vanilla AutoCAD object, Yes he needs to post in the General
AutoCAD group and then look at learning how to use the USC commands. ; )

Well, that tells you how versed I am in the newer vanilla AutoCAD commands. I guess I should add that to my list of things to learn. That will be on my epitaph! 🙂 Thanks for the confirmation.

Unfortunately Fields do not pick up polysolid dimension properties.

If you want to label two Z points in one label draw a non plotting line and
use a C3D Line Label to extract the start and end Z's. Note that the
construction line is not dynamic and will need to be grip edited if the two
Z values change.

The above could also be done with fields on a construction line.

Polysolids can be used to project a level surface with some depth (deck,
patio, bld floor, etc) from plan to profile.

They also make great foundation walls for 3d displays using a pline if you
need that sort of thing.

John Mayo thanks for your answer (Others please know that for good advice I go to mass every Sunday 🙂

However, my real objective is to dimension (and depict the annotation) of two items at diffent z elevations; ie, I want to dimension and depict the height of the foundation. Or be able to dimension the separation of two pipes and the ground. If I am in the top view I am able to dimension the horizontal separation of the mentioned items. However, when I switch to a Left view (Or right), the dimension command still depicts the horizontal separation and not the vertical separation of the items.

That's because your UCS is still in "plan" or the world UCS. If you are
using plain AutoCAD dimensions turn on the DYN UCS or create a new UCS for
the left or right view and try it.

If you can not use a a non plotting construction line that runs between the
two object's z values, and subtract those values with fields in a dimension
and or text string, the AutoCAD group may be more helpful as stated by the
other good folks on this thread.

Attached are some examples of the labels I was talking about in 2010 format.

Do note that C3D labels do not support 3d/isometric views & if a UCS is
applied, the x,y,z will report values relative to the UCS. In this case, I
believe if you maintain the view & put the coord sys back to world, the
values will report as you expect.
