Adding new text is very slow

Hi all,

I have recently run across an odd issue when adding text to a drawing in Civil 3D.  The problem comes with creating a new text item in an existing drawing.  In this drawing, if I insert a text object, Civil freezes up for several minutes.  Once it is un-frozen, the text pops up as it should and everything works as normal.  This happens for both single line and multi line text, with any of my text styles, and across all layers that I have tried.  Other regular drawing objects do not cause any problems, and there are also no problems editing any existing text objects.

To troubleshoot, I have created new drawings and added text, but they do not have problems.  I have also opened other existing drawings, but no problems with those either.  I am worried that the drawing file may be corrupted, but audits and recovers don't show ay errors, and I have purged out everything not in use.

The strangest part is that if I open the same drawing in Map 3D, I have the same text insertion problems, but when I open it in plain CAD or in Raster Design, the text will insert with no problems.

If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them.

Have you compared the support file search path locations for "fonts" in options for c3d, map 3d and AutoCad?
Do these search paths all match?
Also may be worth cleaning out the temp folder and restarting c3d if you haven't. Already tried it.
C:\Users\brubble\AppData\Local\Temp\
This is for Windows 7 temp folder location.
Agree that it's an odd issue and sounds like you've already tried audit , recover and switching styles..
Also maybe try a completly new style with another font.

Checked the support paths and all seemed to be as normal.  I also have the raster design support paths listed as I have been trying to get those commands to work in civil (no luck there either), so I removed them, but had the same issue.  I cleared my temp files out and also cleared out the cache (_mapoptions), but that did not make a difference either.

I took your suggestion to try making a new font style and that seems to have worked.  Everything under the new style inserts as normal with no delay.  Thanks very much for the idea; I'm definitely marking your solution as accepted, but it does lead me to more questions.  How does one particular font style suddenly have problems?  If I create a new style with the same settings and the only difference is the name of the style, why would this work and not the original?

Sorry I can't answer why a certain style / font would suddenly stop working, very strange.
As far as the current styles in the dwg that are slow, maybe try renaming the style and then renaming it back to original name. If that doesn't work try switching fonts back and forth within those styles.

Never heard of this issue before, good luck.
