OK, 2 hours later I finally figured it out. We had all our survey figure
style set to flatten to elevation with the elevation set to 0(evidently this
function doesn't work properly). I ran a sample set of figures from the
Mastering Civil 3d book and very carefully compared the results with ours
and concluded that the only difference was that setting. After I changed
it....voila' all my survey figures work like normal 3d lines again.
But this creates yet another dilema which I have asked about before. How do
you typically deal with the 3d lines in terms of distance inquiries. I do
not want to know the slope distance between
I
want to know the horizontal distance. The only way I have found is by using
the inquiry tool and thats not something I want to get in the habit of.
BTW thanks for all the help. There are so many hidden, hard to find
settings we'd be lost w/o this newsgroup and all your help.

We can also snap to our figures. Are you trying the snaps in a 2d Wireframe
view? Do you have all the other bells & whistles turned off (Polar, Otrack,
Dyn, etc)?
