Re: 2011 Civil 3D - Program freezes often. Hatching takes forever!

for the hatch problem, besides the Preview mode var (good one, thanks guys), keep you properties dialog box off or closed when youre selecting - it really hangs CAD consistently if open and selecting complicated hatching or polys

In options->selection tab, turn off selection highlighting

turn off any other tool tips and heads up display

For dwg slowdown issues:

make sure you're purging regularly, and use the -PURGE (dash purge) command so you can specify to purge RegApps.  Carlson and EaglePoint especially add 10's of thousands of regapps and they can slow you down.

reset your scale list every now and then - the _xref scales issue from 2008 is still being carried forward and can dogg you.  Use SCALELISTEDIT and Reset.  The scale list'll slow down a dwg at some point.

Also, in general:

make sure you have the latest SP - 2.1 I think.  That's made a lot of difference for us.

Max your RAM out if you're on Win7x64 - 8-12G seems nice

Get a good video card and update the drivers for it diligently

This may be a new one, but C3D will lock up everytime on the hatch command or attempt to stretch the boundary of an existing hatch if I have collopsed/minimized the ribbon to panel buttons or titles. As long as the hatch creation ribbon is expanded/visible, no issues.
