2010 Data short cuts

Can someone open a box of crayons and give me
the run down on how to create a DS in 2010? Whatda&^%$ is the working
project template it keeps asking me for? Can I no longer just select the objects
in the model?

Thanks, Joe

I don't know how they worked prior to 2010, but in
2010 you can set up a boiler plate template that creates user defined folders
when you set up shortcuts for a project. They are optional though so you can
ignore them.

ignore them? it will not let me past the bulldog at
the gate: "please specify project template"

Good try - I did ask for a crayon

When you create a new Data Shortcuts
folder, you should see a toggle to use a template? If it is on, turn it off
and it would just use a default which is a single parent
folder.

Well, I don't know if these are the right crayons but you may want to check out:

Joe,

From this can I take it you've bitten the bullet and gone to 2010? I tried to bite it yesterday but it bit back.

1. DS can only be created in a file that has been named & saved. Save your
file if it's newly created.
2. Right Click (RC) on the DS's entry in Prospector & select Set Working
folder (You need to do this every time you change projects in order to
locate the correct data). Browse to you project folder & hit okay (this will
save each projects DS's to a new folder in the project file structure.
3. RC on the DS's entry in prospector again & select New Data Shortcuts
folder. Provide a folder name & the folder is created in the project's root
folder.
4.RC on the DS's entry in prospector one last time & select Create Data
Shortcuts. Select what you want to share & hit Okay.

To create a reference,
1. Save your file if it is newly created.
2. Make sure the Working folder is set to the current project
3. RC on the DS's entry in prospector & expand the object trees. RC on the
C3D object of your desire & choose Create Reference.

Joe,

I've never tried working with DS, but can you go into windows, and just copy that folder into your 2010 working folder?

Reid
