transfering tool palettes (walls, doors etc) from one profile to another profile

I want to transfer or copy the tool palettes (walls, doors, FFE) from one profile to another. I have all my tool bars, set in one profile correctly, but all the tool palettes are in another profile.

Is there a way to copy these tools into another profile? Even if I over-right another palette?

    Thanks,

May I ask how or where you got the second profile with the missing content?

And what is your ACA version please.

I have few different profiles (metric & imperial), which our retailer helped create a year+ ago, prior to them stopping product support.

The profile I use has all the tool bars loaded correctly, but the tool palette only has a very limited tabs (light bulbs, cameras, modelling etc) which I never use.

The other profile has architectural tabs (walls, doors etc) which includes a number I created, since the defaults do not match common construction.

We are running AutoCAD Architecture 2011, with product updates 1 & 2 installed, plotting update patch, and trim hotfix update.

Sounds like the profile with the toolbars is (or is similar to) the [ACA as] AutoCAD profile.  Does it use the ACAD.cuix as the main customization file?  The other profile sounds like one of the ACA profiles; does it use the ACA.cuix as the main customization file?

If the two profiles use different main customization files, then the question becomes: where are the toolbars defined?  The out-of-the-box ACA.cuix file has no toolbars.  If the toolbars you are using are out-of-the-box toolbars, or are customizations created in the ACAD.cuix file, then you are going to need to transfer them to another customization file.  You could transfer them to the ACA.cuix file, but then you would need to do so each time you migrate to a new release.  (Yes, you could bring your old ACA.cuix file along, but then you would miss out on any new interface items added to the ACA.cuix in the new release).  Loading the ACAD.cuix file as a partial customization file with the ACA.cuix file as the main is not recommended, due to duplications of contextual ribbon tabs between the two.  I would recommend transferring the toolbars to a newly created CUIX file, that you would then backup/maintain/bring along to new releases.

Once you have that new CUIX file, load it as a partial customization file and add the toolbars you want to your workspace(s).

Well, I am leery of working on the cuix file, since took our retailer several hours to configure the toolbars, ribbon and digitizer tablet to operate correctly.

So, I think rather than changing the cuix file, and since everything is working properly, I will just switch the profile to one where the architectural palette when needed. I only use the palette for short periods during the design drawings.

    Thanks,

If you are simply copying tool palettes use the Content Browser.

Create your palettes the way you want them in one profile. Use I-drop to drag the palette to your Catalog in Content Browser. Then switch profiles and drag the palette back down to the interface in the new profile. This will work easily for OOTB content. If the tools on the palette call for a specific file in a location that you defined in OPTIONS then that too will need to be defined in this profile.

Yes, it works. Simple, I just copied the palette tab contents into a the Content Browser, and then into the other profile's palette tab (new). It took all the factory tools and new also.

    Thanks,
