Window not placing in a wall?

Why would a window not go into a wall?

I have a client who is having this issue - when I open the file it works fine for me.

Is there a system variable or setting that could cause this?

have you checked the window style display properties? maybe it's there but it's not showing in the drawing. other than that i'm not entirely sure. the only problem that most people run into constantly is the cut plane not being set correctly.have you tried repairing the installation?

I am the client who is having this issue.

Typically I can do this to add a window by typing at the command line:

    Window

    <Enter>

    Add

    <Enter>

    The command line then prompts:

Select wall, grid assembly or enter

At that point I would click the wall I wanted to add the window to and it would be inserted. Yesterday, this function automatically stopping working for windows, however I can still complete the same steps to add a door and it works.

Now, when I go through the above steps and it prompts:

Select wall, grid assembly or enter

I select the wall. Instead of it placing the window, the selection box changes to the crosshair icon and the object snap points show up. The crosshair also shows up if I attempt to use the Tool Palette to place the window in the wall.

I would test another Windows user account on this same machine, one who has never logged onto this computer before,  and see if the behavior exists there. This way you can narrow it down a bit. If it doesn’t happen for the other user then chances are there is a setting amiss or a problem in the install as it pertains to the Windows user account and interface with AutoCAD.

You could try a repair but if it only happens for the one user this more than likely will not help. You may have to reset ACA back to default by initiating the secondary installer.

    Issue
To reset the default AutoCAD® Architecture 2012 user settings, you want to reinitiate the secondary installer.
    Solution

To reset the AutoCAD® Architecture 2012 default user settings, you must first delete your application files and registry entries for the program. Follow these steps:

Note: Make sure that you back up any customized AutoCAD Architecture 2012 files before starting this procedure.

    1. Click Start menu (Windows) > Run.
    2. In the Run dialog box, enter regedit
    3. In the Registry Editor, browse to the following subkey and delete it:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R18.2\ACAD-A004:409

    4. Close the Registry Editor.
    5. Using Windows Explorer, browse to and delete the following user's application folders:

    Windows 7
    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ACA 2012
    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\ACA 2012

    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Autodesk\ACA 2012
    C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\ACA 2012

    6. Start AutoCAD Architecture 2012. This will initiate the secondary installer, recreating the deleted files and folders.
Warning! Problems caused by improperly editing the Windows registry could render your computer operating system unusable. Microsoft provides a wealth of critical information that you need to know about the registry in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com/support.

Use the Microsoft® Registry Editor only at your own risk and only after backing up the registry as well as the system.dat and user.dat files as outlined for your operating system in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and in the related solution, TS66513. Additional information about the registry is also contained in the Help topics in the Microsoft Registry Editor.

We have tried the file on two diffrent computers, not two different users on the same computer, when i open it on mine - it works just fine.

We will give what you have posted a try - I will let you  know what we come up with.

Make sure the elevation is set to 0 (lower right corner of screen).

I just had this problem. I moved into 3d view and noticed that the windows were at the very top of the walls, above the cut plane. I simply lowered the head heights, and now they appear in plan view.
