Re: Are tools being removed from ACA?

Customization takes effort the first time, after that it's just maintenance: you either want to do it, or you don't, CUI command and the Ribbon is not rocket science at all, just a different way of looking at the screen menu. Editing the old school MNU/MNS files was no easier or more difficult, it just took an understanding of the process too.

Same with Lisps, typing commands or shortcuts, and setting them up: not rocket science, just a need to understand the basics up front is all it takes.

No one ever got ahead by just doing things set for them by others: in CAD or in Business or in Life. If you are under the impression you are the only one around here working to feed a family, you are being naive. I would put any ACA customizing user against you any day for efficiency and production output: things change, not broken, but you can control it in AutoCAD/ACA much more so than any other patsy-CAD software out there.

If you can't find it in the CUI, add it: commands section is there to do just that. There are many youtube videos to walk you through the basics, explore. Yes, you might have to do this on your own time but self advancement takes effort before punching a clock.

Enough already Dean. You should know I also customise already! I have developed my own lisp for managing levels in one file. I developed my own layer key system fo rthat purpose.  I have my own cuix which I have brought along with me and continue to develop which gathers my own tools. I have created my own ribbon within that cuix.  I have set up a system for the several systems I manage. No one is trying to live up to your standard which is meaningless.  Customise. I get it.  I do.

You are missing the point (not the first time).  Tools that were once visible and available in OOTB ACA are now missing from the interface.  I should not have to customise to make them available again.

Oh and don't forget you are part of a large organisation.  Any customisation you or another manager learns in your company is multiplied across many users.  Not so ecocomic with single or small offices. Get it?

    Thanks David.  Missed your reply.

Perhaps I can rant enough to get it added to 13.

Lack of development is one thing.

    Hiding tools is another level.

    cheers

There's a swag of tools missing from the ribbon, which is why everyone complains about it. Try finding the tool to insert a structural member shape as a polyline. Was there in the 'old' menus but nowhere to be seen on the ribbon that I can find. Surely the bright spark who thought up of the ribbons would have placed every tool that appeared on the old menus into the new interface, but is that too much to expect?

While many ACA commands are not in the Ribbon interface (many ACA commands were not in the old interface, either, but I will agree that there were more in the pre-ribbon interface), MEMBERSHAPEINSERT is not among the missing.  On the Manage ribbon tab, on the Style & Display panel, expand the panel by clicking on the panel title to reveal the Member Shape tool.   See attached image from ACA 2010.

Cool, thanks for pointing that out David. Either shows how un-easy the ribbon really is, or shows I'm a bit slow...

Also found this clear tool in the ACA12 interface.

Click the little arrow to the right of the question mark (help), top right

and you can select a nice clear interface "Where is my command" which looks back to the 09 dropdowns.

Click any one of the items  and you can then see how many are missing from the ribbon.

The whole of the Leader tools and anchor set is missing.

Mass group and MG properties is missing but it says Model Explorer is on the Mass Group tab.  Where the MG tab is I don't know.  Slice floorplates and slice props has been removed. Don't use them but not sure why they'd be removed.  They better not remove the Model Explorer.

the command "ribbon" is not available on the ribbon (smirk)
