AecArchBaseDoc via Vlisp

With the AutoDESK server being down (? - slow?) I've decided to repost this - so sorry for the redundancy. I was wondering if anyone had a chance to play around with it - I'm anxious to get to the AecDataBaseScale object . . . From an earlier post: "Look for "AecArchBaseDocument" in "Customer Files". It contains an example; "AecUtil.lsp", which can be used in place of (vla-get-activedocument(vlac-get-acad-object)) for accessing the AecArchBaseDoc. I've included a number of comments to explain what I've done and so forth. What we could all do to expand this code would be configuration checking for multiple versions and platforms. The example works for ADT 3 with a sloght modification to work on ADT 3.3. If any of you have time to download it and check it out I would appreciate any feedback!! James Buzbee"

I can see it now. The banner out front, "Welcome to AA, AutoLISPers
Anonymous". "Hi, my name is Bobby and I've been using lisp for about 11
years. I've seen the effect it's having on my family and I just want to
stop!" 🙂

James, Peter can add my name to his list of converts, or converts in process
:-) Don't worry about learning a new language. I have picked up on the
language very quickly. There is still much that I don't know but I was able
to write my first working function, that I was actually happy with, in a
matter of hours. My first ever lisp routine took me days and I was never
happy with it 🙂 You, like me, are already familiar with the object model
and the theories of working with objects so it's really just a matter of the
language syntax. Paul suggested "VB & VBA in a nutshell" by Paul Lomax,
which I ordered off of http://www.acadx.com and I have found it invaluable
already. The problems that I am running into are 1) figuring out how to
properly use the IDE for debugging, 2) rethinking error handling techniques,
3) rethinking my function library organization. I'm sure that I'll run into
others, but those are the things that I'm having troubles with now, not the
language. I sincerely hope that you decide to make the plunge, I'd love
some company!

Bobby,

If you every find yourself slipping back, make a dialog with VBA, and then
go back and write the same dialog using DCL

Keep up the good work. I guess that I'll have to get some "AA" tokens
made...

Peter

I have to say that unfortunately I will not be joing you guys this year
at AU :-(...
Last time was real fun and thanks to the slow economy my company chopped
this part off,
even after saving them 5000$ this year from our VIP renewal budget.

oh well. Maybe next year I will attend the intervention...I was wanting
to meet you guys in person, oh well next year I hope Rob gets the Visa
(from his wife) and I do as well.

Actually Last year I was able to meet John Janzen, Peter, Jullian and it
was a great please to meet them in person.

hey I will hopefully get going on the VBA thing soon. its hard to kick
old habits... though I did manage to write a function (with help
ofcourse from Mark and Chris Dodge @ autodesk)...

AL/VL A- member...

I think we should be able to arrange something. I'll be there all week,
Sunday to Friday.

Thanks

The only thing really holding me back right now from diving into VBA is my partners - they're expecting me to do actual architecture stuff; design and marketing. Which are also fun however, starting a business is stressful and scarey! I've got a number of other "irons in the fire" right now but I'll be finding time in the wee hours to do some experimenting. . .. I really wish I had the time for AU, raise you glasses and think of Nauman and I. jb
