mtext through a viewport

I have choose to edit text through a viewport if there is only a word to edit. when i do this i get 8 different groups of the same text in 8 different size fonts. Is this something to do with annotation, maybe a switch mistakenly turned on? Also, can anyone refer me to a very good tutorial on Annotation? This annotation stuff is driving a few of us nuts. We don't fully understand it. We have watched a few tutorials but they are not getting the point across. thank you.

Yes it's anno
When you add text, make sure the style you are using is not set to anno
(tick box is off).
type STYLE and dead in the centre is the tick box.
autocadexchange.com should have some tut's for anno. It can be handy when
you need the same text at different scales but apart from that it can be
painful.

CAN YOU GET ME SOMETHING IN ENGLISH FOR ANNOTATION? I AM A FINLANDER THAT CAN'T READ YOUR LANGUAGE OR MY OWN FOR THAT MATTER.
